Description

Delicately and beautifully made, this lovely little figurine by Acoma potter Judy Lewis depicts a traditional corn maiden.  The body of the maiden is entirely white, corn kernels attached along the front, while two beautiful husks flow upward and outward along the sides.  These husks are painted vibrantly in red, yellow, black, and white in various geometric patterns, while a large tableta painted in red and black rests atop the maiden’s head. The piece is finished with expressive eyes, rosy cheeks, and a round, open mouth.  In many Native American cultures, corn maidens are revered, considered bringers of life who represent potential. 5 5/8″ tall x 2 1/4″ wide x 2″ deep.
