Description

A seated woman rests with four children, two on each outstretched leg, in this traditional handmade storyteller figurine by Jemez potter Vernida Toya.  The woman holds a wedding vase painted with a corn stalk in between her hands, her eyes expressing and mouth open.  One boy and one girl rest on each of her legs, the girls with flowers in their hair that mimic the flowers along the woman’s shirt, though solid white as opposed to her red, white and turquoise.  The woman is finished with a shawl draped over her shoulders, the back painted in step and geometric patterns in black and red.  5 3/4″ tall x 5 1/4″ wide x 4 1/2″ deep.
