Celebrating Old and New Traditions
Every fall, people from all over New Mexico look forward to the beauty of yellow aspens, the smell of roasting green chile and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!
Since 1972, when 13 balloonists gathered in the parking lot of Coronado Mall, Balloon Fiesta has been held annually in Albuquerque. Now in its 42nd year, Balloon Fiesta is not only the world’s largest ballooning event, but has repeatedly been considered the most photographed event in the world with hundreds of thousands of spectators taking an estimated 25 million photographs every year.
This year, we look forward to the unique events we’ve come to know and love—like watching the Dawn Patrol, experiencing the Mass Ascension, wandering through Balloon Glows and enjoying the Special Shape Rodeo—and a new event that is sure to become an annual tradition: The American Indian Arts Festival.
The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center has put together a series of events to celebrate the art of more than 100 Native American artists from October 5 – 6. In addition to showcasing original art, jewelry and pottery, the festival will feature:
- Native American Dances
- Fashion Shows
- Pueblo Throws
- Art Demonstrations
