About Our Native American Mata Ortiz Pottery
Mata Ortiz pottery revives the tradition of pottery making from Casa Grandes, Mexico. At Palms Trading Company, our Mata Ortiz pottery artists create various pottery styles similar to those found in Native American pottery. Mata Ortiz pottery is a younger tradition, started in 1955 by Juan Quezada, and now features over 350 artists who specialize in the same techniques.
Our Mata Ortiz pottery is hand-coiled and takes more liberties with design since it is not culturally tied to the ancient Native American traditions that influenced it. Purchasing Mata Ortiz pottery from Palms Trading guarantees a unique piece to add to your collection as you own a piece of a new tradition.
