Description

Depicting an early morning singer, this large kachina doll was created by hand by Navajo carver Albert Chavez.  The kachina stands atop a round wooden base, its legs and body painted in multiple colors including yellow, blue, pink, and red.  The kachina holds a feather in one hand, leather and felt accenting its lower half, chest and wrists, while fur surrounds it ankles, neck, and is set at the top of its head. The face is painted turquoise with black eyes and cloud and rain patterns on the cheeks painted in red, yellow, black and white, while two large feathers protruding upward finish the back of the head. The morning singer appears on rooftops and sings to waken the village. 14 1/2″ tall x 6 1/2″ wide x 4″ deep.
