Description
Five children rest in the lap of a seated woman in this impressively handmade, large storyteller figurine by Jemez potter Linda Lucero Fragua. The woman rests with her legs outstretched, a shawl draped over her head and covering her shoulders and back, as well as the child resting over her shoulder. This child holds a drum, while one of the children in her lap holds a basket, and another, a blanket. The other two children each put one or both hands to their mouths, while a basket of corn rests atop one of the woman’s legs. Children and woman are all painted in varying degrees of black, red, brown, buff, and grey, with the woman’s shawl showcasing an intricate combination of patterns along the sides and back. Each figure’s mouth is open and eyes are expressive, while the woman’s cheeks are rosy. 6 3/4″ tall x 4″ wide x 6″ deep.
