Description
Expertly carved by Hopi artist Carlon Harvey, this tall, vibrant kachina doll depicts a Red Beard Longhair. The piece maintains a narrow, mostly upright posture, feathers carved atop the head and along the back of what appears to be a rope draped down the back of the hair, while the remainder of the piece is carved with a cloak over the shoulders and additional garments painted in red, green, turquoise, yellow and black and depicting various patterns including a corn stalk and kokpelli at the back, as well as a diamond shaped sunface, flowers, and two more kokpelli at the front along with various geometric designs. The Longhair kachina doll is said to bring rain, and is always singing, its long hair symbolizing the rain. 14 1/4″ tall x 2 3/4″ wide.
